Lignum Gordon Setters

Well, where to start?

Guy and I (Angie) both grew up in the countryside around Herefordshire.  We were lucky enough to have numerous pets and companions including, to name but a few, dogs, cats, horses, chickens, geese, goats, sheep, ducks, rabbits, tortoises, fish......the list could go on and on!!

Guy and I married on the island of Mauritius in 1995.  At that time we had a beautiful Rotti called Page.  She was a rescue dog, who we completely adored.  Her temperament was wonderful, completely trustworthy and as loyal a friend as you could ever wish for.  Sadly, in early Spring 2006, we said our goodbyes to Page at the grand old age of 13.

Anyway, our love of animals has never faultered and we are now lucky enough to have our own smallholding and family of animals including, of course, two Gordon Setters (Megan and Murdock), five Alpacas, nineteen Chickens and two Geese and we are still growing!!

Our love of Gordons started whilst we still had Page and we considered on a number of occasions having one join our family.  But, Page had to come first and we didn't think she would appreciate, in her latter years, having a young, bouncy puppy Gordon invade her space, so we waited.  When Page passed away it hit us hard, she was everything to us and we thought we would never be able to have another dog again.  However, we soon realised, having never been without a dog, that our lives were not complete.

So in September 2006 Megan, Laurelhach Pure Indulgence, came to live with us.  She is such a wonderful girl, even if she was a very naughty puppy.  Having Megan (known at home as 'flopps' or 'floppsie', amongst other things) join our family was the best decision we ever made.  She is such fun, full of character and loves to give cuddles and kisses to everybody she meets, whether they want them or not!!  However, having had Page as an only dog, we thought young Flopps would love to have another Gordon companion (well that's our excuse and we are sticking to it!).

Well.......this is when Murdock (Laurelhach Just Jitterbug JW) joined us.  He was a very well behaved puppy, albeit a little clumsy.  Murdock (known at home as 'fella') was such an outgoing young man, completely confident in everything he did, with young Megan at his side.  The fella is so enthusiastic about life, he is a real inspiration.

Both Megan and Murdock have wonderful temperaments and are so sweet natured.  As you might imagine we have lots of visitors some of whom bring their pets with them and both dogs welcome them into their home like they are old friends.

We were granted our Kennel Name, 'Lignum', in 2009.  We wanted a name that was relevant to us.  Lignum is derived from 'Lignum Vitae', meaning tree or wood of life. Guy is a Cabinet Maker and we live next to Carpenters Wood so it needed to be something that related to this. The wood can be two tone black & tan (see below).

We are all members of the British Gordon Setter Club and the Gordon Setter Association.

We know that we are so lucky to have such wonderful dogs.  Our thanks must go to Frances Boxall, Laurelhach, for entrusting us with Megan and Murdock.  They are our lives.

Please see Megan and Murdock's pages to learn more about them.  Thank you.
